About Refraction Family Services
Established in 2003, Refraction Family Services specialise in supporting families in managing challenging behaviours in children and teenagers with typical cognitive functioning as well as those with learning disabilities – including autism.
Our Services are delivered by qualified experienced professionals who are passionate about helping children and young people manage their negative behaviours and develop competent, pro-social behaviours.
Refraction services are evidence based, and are designed using up to date research in the behavioural psychology field. Our care and home tuition staff come from social work, youth work, teaching, nursing, psychology and child care backgrounds. Our behaviour management specialists are Board Certified ABA. We work with a network of allied therapists and medical practitioners who provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment as necessary.
Parent/family training and support
Refraction recognises the huge strain that challenging and aggressive behaviours places on family life, and in particular on parents. Using professionals accredited in delivering the highly successful Incredible Years Programme, Refraction provides 14 week support and training courses for parents struggling with this issue. This programme consists of 14 two hour facilitated training sessions together with weekly individual telephone contact and at least three home visits to support parents in the home environment.
Day care, home tuition and support
Refraction provides care and home tuition to children and young people in blocks lasting four hours, eight hours, and more where required. This care is provided at our centres, run according to child care regulation standards as defined by the HSE. Young people are looked after in high quality houses and in a safe, warm caring environment and our staffing ration is at least 1:1. In addition to day to day care, young people benefit from:
Home Tuition in specially equipped home tuition rooms for young people who are not in school.
